Reflecting on recent progress at Denby Delf

Times are pretty challenging at the moment. We can be forgiven for being downbeat as the country wrestles with the cost of living, the war in Ukraine, the fallout from the Coronavirus pandemic and Brexit amongst other things. Despite the ups and downs of the weather this summer, there is plenty happening on our reserves. It seems a good time to reflect on our progress … Continue reading Reflecting on recent progress at Denby Delf

A sparkling new wetland for wildlife is almost complete

A very Happy New Year to all! Things have been very busy since our last update in the autumn. A summer of progress

We’re now into July and the summer season is upon us. Clegg’s Meadow looked a picture in Spring with thousands of Cowslips putting on a great show, followed by a riot of yellow buttercups. The meadow was cut in early July, and is already greening up ready for the cattle which are grazing the adjoining pastures on Broomhill Flash and providing the right conditions for … Continue reading A summer of progress

Emerging habitats and new wildlife

We’re now well into autumn and work has started again on the Wings across the Ings project. In September, we were delighted to have the help of Pete Wall and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust volunteers in helping to seed the new grassland on The Fleet. After Jonathan (our farmer) had prepared the ground, they sowed it ‘old-style’ by hand after which it was rolled to … Continue reading Emerging habitats and new wildlife

Springing into action: Wings Across the Ings takes flight

April’s here and the first sand martins, chiffchaffs and wheatears have arrived. Thanks to all for your positive comments about the website and the work going on at Broomhill Flash. The excavations are well underway and although it looks a mess at the moment, it will all come together in the next two or three weeks. See our plan for Wings Across the Ings project. … Continue reading Springing into action: Wings Across the Ings takes flight
